Sunday morning we left the woods and marshes of Guys Mills Pennsylvania for the midwestern plains of Ohio. Out here the horizon recedes and the sky looms large.
Our tour planners have done an outstanding job of planning each day so that we can work hard at our music but otherwise have a relaxing trip. An important part of making a tour relaxing is scheduling plenty of stops. Today, each stop was better than the one before. Our first stop was a normal rest stop at a truck stop.
Our second stop was to eat a packed lunch prepared by Jordan’s family. Apparently the Lehman’s know how to make cookies as I heard several people raving over the chocolate chip cookies.
For our final stop before reaching Rosedale, we visited Conrad Miller’s coffee shop called Simple Coffee in Mechanicsburg. Conrad generously opened his coffee shop to us offering us our drink of choice and the run of the shop. Several choir members found their way to the basement which had been a station on the underground railroad for runaway slaves seeking freedom. As they stood silently in the dim light they actually heard Hariet Tubman’s whippoorwill call and a faint echo of “Let my people go….” At least, so I was told.
After what seemed like a short time, we left the coffee shop for Rosedale Bible College, the location of our second program for this tour. What an amazing place to sing! The platform in the front of the chapel made moving for various arrangements simple and the acoustics made singing so much more rewarding.
This evening was the first time I felt that confidence that comes when things begin to click in a singing group. Singing this evening was so much fun. I am more excited than ever about all the singing we have before us yet.
